MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubrication) has gained popularity in recent years over traditional metal working fluids or flood coolant. Traditional MWF's require large amounts of coolant and additional equipment to recirculate, filter, test, and treat to prevent contamination. Traditional coolant can be messy and is also considered a toxic waste which requires expensive removal and disposal that slows production and increases cost.

MQL does not use coolant but rather a lubricant and only requires "minimal quantities". The lubricant provides a thin coat of protection and transfers the heat to the chip and is expelled. This process allows for faster speeds and cooler temps which translates to longer tool life, higher quality parts, and lowered cycle times. The health benefits are also noticeable as the lubricant is not toxic and the production area is much cleaner and safer, without coolant everywhere. The resulting swarf or chips are virtually dry and can be recycled without cleaning, saving you more money.
